Graduates must have registered by the deadline to participate in the Hooding ceremony. If you are attending as a non-hooding faculty member, please email graduate@ku.edu.

Regalia Rental

Regalia is required for participation in the doctoral hooding ceremony. If you do not have your own regalia (cap, gown, tassel, and hood), you should arrange for rental or purchase of the needed items.  Doctoral candidates from the Lawrence campus may purchase their items at the KU Bookstore in the Kansas Union or at the Jayhawk Bookstore. The deadline for regalia rental is April 3. After this date, late fees will apply.

Faculty from the Medical Center should work with the KUMC Bookstore.  Call 913-588-2548 for more information.

Instructions upon Arrival:

Please arrive in your academic regalia no later than 7:00pm the day of the event.

Hooding faculty:
Faculty members that will hood doctoral candidates are requested to meet their students in the designated area for their school. There will be signage to direct faculty and students to the appropriate hallway. Please stand with the candidate(s) you will be hooding. The procession will begin promptly at 7:30pm. Watch the hooding demonstration video here

Non-hooding faculty
Faculty members not hooding doctoral candidates are encouraged to attend and will be directed on where to line up in order to be seated in a section reserved for graduate faculty. You will enter after the faculty hooders and doctoral candidates and will be seated directly behind them in the reserved seating area.

Faculty hooders in need of an accommodation due to a disability should contact Graduate Studies at least two weeks in advance of the event. Email: graduate@ku.edu Phone: 785-864-8040 TTY: 711
