Biography

Benjamin R. Warner is a Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Missouri, the Director of the university’s Political Communication Institute, and has served six years as the Director of Graduate Studies. Dr. Warner also served on the Executive Committee of the National Communication Association (2025). Dr. Warner’s research engages the causes, consequences, and remedies of political polarization, as well as the effects of televised presidential campaign debates. He has 70 scholarly publications, including 3 edited books, 41 peer-reviewed journal articles, 21 book chapters, and 5 other publications (e.g., encyclopedia entries). His work has been cited nearly 2,000 times. He is two-time winner of the Michael Pfau outstanding article award by National Communication Association and was the inaugural recipient of the Judith S. Trent Award for Early Career Excellence in Political Communication in 2019. Dr. Warner has advised or co-advised 15 doctoral graduate students, 5 of whom are in progress and 12 who have graduated with their PhD.
